On Monday, January 27, 2020, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspect Anthony Tate Jr., 24 years of age, of the 200 block of South Marguerite Avenue in Ferguson, Missouri 63135, for one count of Murder in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the First Degree, five counts of Armed Criminal Action, one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Tate was arrested on January 29, 2020 and he is being held on $750,000 “cash only” bond. A mugshot of Tate is attached. Please note, charges are merely an accusation and the Defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

 

The probable cause statement reads: On December 12, 2019, the Defendant drove onto a parking lot on Lewis and Clark Boulevard and parked behind the Victim’s vehicle. After an approximate 20 minute observation of the victim’s vehicle, the Defendant’s vehicle is seen on video pulling next to the Victim’s vehicle and gunfire is observed coming from the Defendant’s vehicle and entering the Victim’s vehicle. Two people in the Victim’s vehicle were shot and seriously injured, and one person was shot and died at the scene. Another victim, in a nearby car, was also struck by the gunfire from the Defendant’s vehicle and seriously injured. Defendant was seen on video approximately four minutes after the shooting in a gas station pumping gas into the vehicle used in the homicide. After an investigation by St. Louis City Police, the Defendant was arrested on Lexa Drive, driving the vehicle used in this shooting and was in possession of a firearm which matched the ballistic evidence in this case. The Defendant pled guilty and was sentenced to the felony of Assault in the Second Degree in the 21st Circuit in case number 14SL-CR06252-01.

Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are conducting the investigation.
