Bureau of Crimes Against Persons

The unit investigates crimes related to homicides, assaults, robberies, sexual assault, domestic abuse, child abuse, human trafficking, and cold-cases.
 

Homicide/Robbery/Sexual Assault Unit: The detectives assigned to this unit respond to and investigate homicides, suicides, suspicious deaths, fatal automobile accidents, serious assaults, robberies of establishments, complete follow-up investigations of street robberies, rape and sexual assault of adult victims. In addition, these detectives provide training to the community on robbery prevention and provide resources to victims to receive support through the court and services provided by the community.

Child Abuse Unit: The detectives assigned to this unit respond to and investigate child abuse. 

Domestic Violence Unit: The detectives assigned to this unit respond to and investigation domestic violence. In addition, they provide interdiction and work to reduce domestic violence in the community. These detectives also investigate missing person cases.

Special Investigations Unit: The detectives assigned to this unit primarily investigate internet crimes against children and human trafficking.

Cold Case Unit: The detective(s) assigned to this unit are responsible for reviewing and investigating unsolved homicides, missing persons, and sexual assault cases in which all known leads have been exhausted. These investigations often gain traction through the development of modern technologies, such as DNA analysis, as well as through re-interviewing witnesses and even suspects. The St. Louis County Police Department and its investigators are committed to ensuring that every victim is remembered by diligently pursuing justice, holding offenders accountable, and helping families achieve closure.
